Introducing a new snow area where you can experience the best powder snow. Yoshinori Sakuno has been appointed as the Tourism Ambassador of Asahikawa City, Hokkaido.
We are thrilled to announce that our Group Managing Director, Yoshinori Sakuno, has been appointed as a Tourism Ambassador by Mayor Hirosuke Imazu of Asahikawa City. Alongside our esteemed client, Yoshiharu Hoshino, CEO of Hoshino Resorts, who has taken on the role of City Government Advisor. The commissioning ceremony was held in the city on January 10, 2024.
Together, their goal is to attract overseas tourists, especially Australians, to explore the wonders of the Hokkaido Powder Belt. Both teams are enthusiastic about showcasing all that Asahikawa has to offer to everyone who hasn’t had a chance to experience it yet!
The Hokkaido Powder Belt, encompassing Asahikawa City with ski havens like Tomamu, Furano, Kamui, Asahidake, and Kurodake, constitutes a winter wonderland. Stretching approximately 200 km from north to south in the heart of Hokkaido, this region is home to some of the finest powder snow globally. From towering snow-capped peaks to quaint local ski resorts, the diverse environment caters to seasoned skiers and those venturing into backcountry adventures, ensuring everyone can revel in the beauty of the winter mountains.
The ski resorts have unveiled powder zones, adhering to their individual safety standards, and present a range of activities, including guided backcountry tours for soaking in the snowy scenery. Moreover, the resorts’ ski areas feature beginner courses, dedicated children’s zones, and après-ski offerings, creating an enticing destination with attractions catering to visitors of all ages.
Hoshino Resorts operates OMO7 Asahikawa and Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU in the region, while doq has been conducting annual marketing promotions for Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU’s Oceania region since 2014—an effort that resulted in the appointment of our tourism ambassador.
Asahikawa City is nestled in the Daisetsu area, embraced by Mount Daisetsu, the crown of Hokkaido, renowned for the earliest snowfall and the slowest snowmelt in Japan. Positioned as an urban snow resort with convenient access to Asahikawa Airport, the city offers a variety of post-skiing activities, from leisurely strolls through the city and savouring the local culinary scene to indulging in hot springs and exploring the Asahiyama Zoo.
Anticipate an exciting journey as we reveal more about Asahikawa and the undiscovered treasures of the Hokkaido Powder Belt.
